In Loving Memory of Stravoula Kouskousoglou

Stravoula Kouskousoglou, also lovingly known as Voula, a beloved mother, grandmother (Yiayia), and friend, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026 at the age of 73 surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 26, 1952 in Greece, Voula came to America at the age of 14, where she lived a life defined by resilience, determination, and unwavering love for her family. She was strong-willed and, as those who knew her best would lovingly say, more than a little hardheaded. Once she set her mind to something, there was rarely any changing it. Her determination helped her overcome challenges throughout her life and served as an inspiration to those around her.

Though she could be stubborn, her strength came from a deep sense of conviction, loyalty, and care for the people she loved. She stood her ground when it mattered, spoke her mind honestly, and never hesitated to fight for her family and with her family. Beneath her tough exterior was a generous heart, a sharp wit, and a love that was steadfast and enduring.

She found joy in spending time with family and friend, sharing stories while sitting around the kitchen table drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes, while creating lasting memories with those she loved. Her laughter, wisdom, and unmistakable personality will be remembered and cherished forever.

Voula is survived by her children, Pavlos and Atheena (Kostas Tzavaras); her grandchildren, Marina, Ioannis, Athanasios and Anastasia. She is also survived by her brother Sotrios Thagouras and his 11 children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ioannis Kouskousoglou; her father, Diomidis Thagouras; her mother, Panayota Baltadzis.

Her family takes comfort in the many memories they shared with her and the legacy of strength, love, and perseverance she leaves behind. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A wake service will be held on Friday, June 26th from 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT 06902. A funeral service will then take place at 12:00 PM at The Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford St., Stamford, CT 06905. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery (66 Woodland Pl Stamford, CT 06902). Funeral Reception will be held at Curley’s Diner (62 W Park Place Stamford, CT 06901) immediately following burial.
