Stephen Sogan, 101, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2009.
Born in Benwood, West Virginia on January 9, 1908, he was the son of the late Alexander and Mary Toth Shogan. He was raised in Hungary and returned to the U.S.in 1927. Steve worked at Machlett Laboratories of Stamford as a tool & die maker, he then went to Stamford Carburetor until he retired well into his 90’s. His love of music and gardening carried over to his volunteering at St. Benedict/Our Lady of Montserrat, where he cared for the church’s gardens and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was able to fix anything at home where he would fabricate the necessary pieces. Steve was a happy man and always had a smile on his face.
Steve is survived by his daughter Dorothy Ann Sogan of Stamford; a brother-in-law, William Kaszics of Orlando, FL; his nieces and nephews, Barbara Leydon of Stamford, Edward Kozicki of Stamford, Laura Wylie of New Rochelle, NY, and Linda Schindele of Orlando, FL; and several great & great-great nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Kaszics Sogan; a sister, Margaret Kozicki of Stamford; as well as a sister and two brothers in Hungary.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Wednesday, July 1, from 9:30 �" 10:30 AM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home following the calling hours, and proceed to St. Benedict/Our Lady of Montserrat Church, 1 St. Benedict Circle, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien.
