Susanne E. DePreta, 97, of Stamford, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Friday, November 27, 2015. Sue was born in Bridgeport, CT on June 19, 1918 to the late Peter and Lena Verderosa Evaristo.
Sue was a lifelong Stamford resident. She graduated from Stamford High School class of 1935 and was instrumental in organizing class reunions for many years. Sue worked as a receptionist for W. Conolly DDS and H. Kweskin DDS, as well as a poll moderator with the City of Stamford for numerous elections. She was an avid knitter, seamstress, gardener and baker, and loved to see Broadway plays with her Socialite Club girls. Sue had a wonderful memory and was able to recount stories of years gone by, even helping film the documentary Stamford, A Small Town Remembers. She loved spending time with family and friends and will be missed dearly.
Sue is survived by her daughters; Suzanne DePreta of Stamford and Marlene Rybnick of Stamford, her grandchildren; Renee Terbrusch and her husband Walter of Ridgefield and Michele Karpowich and her husband John of Trumbull and her great-grandchildren; Tyler, Zachary, Amanda and Alison. Her sisters-in-law; Elizabeth DePreta, Eleanor DePreta and Vicki Evaristo, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins also survive.
Besides her parents, Sue is predeceased by her loving husband Nicholas E. DePreta and her siblings; Theresa Rinaldi, Lawrence Evaristo and Fred Evaristo.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Friday December 4, 2015 from 6:00 to 9:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday December 5, 2015 at 10:00AM at The Basilica of St. John the Evangelist, 279 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien.
