Sylvia Irene (Melland) Buzzeo passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Stamford Hospital. She was born on October 27, 1915 in Primrose Dane County Wisconsin to the late Melvin and Julia (Nelson) Melland.

Sylvia graduated from Mount Horeb Wisconsin High School and Platteville State College, University of Wisconsin and earned a teacher’s degree. Upon graduation, she taught grades 1-8 in a one room school house for 5 years before accepting a position in the Adjutant General’s office, Pentagon Building in Washington, D.C. where she met her husband, Louis Buzzeo, and were married at Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washington, D.C., July 8, 1945.

After WWII, she moved to Stamford with her husband. She worked at Northeast utilities until her retirement in 1972. During her retirement, she volunteered at Stamford Hospital for over thirty years. She loved to travel, especially cruising. She went on 22 cruises in the Caribbean, Europe, South America, and Hawaii.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a sister, Lois Arneson and her husband Carl of Barneveld, Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, Clementina Buzzeo and Mary Antonelli of Stamford; and Lucy Caruso and her husband Anthony Caruso of Stamford; and brother-in-law, Michael Buzzeo and his wife Jill of Palm Beach Gardens, FL. She was also survived by eleven nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Selma, Joseph and Edward Melland; a sister, Marcella Woolston; brother-in-law, Gaetano Antonelli; and a sister-in-law, Dolores Buzzeo.

A funeral service will be held at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue Stamford, on Saturday, December 27 at 10:00 with Rev. Joan Breckenridge officiating. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 26, from 3:00 – 7:00 PM.
