Theodore Lanzaro

Theodore D. Lanzaro, 81, a resident of Southport, CT passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was born in Stamford on March 7, 1937 to the late Luciano and Mary Rice Lanzaro. He grew up in Stamford and joined the United States Marine Corps. After serving his country, he was married and worked as a barber and co-owned a preschool with his wife in Stamford. He served as little league coach for his sons’ baseball team in Shippan and was an active member and at one point President of the Italian Center of Stamford. He moved his family to Boca Raton, FL in 1978 and lived there for over 20 years before returning to Connecticut. In Boca Raton, he owned a barber shop where he worked and co-owned two preschools that his wife, Phyllis ran.
Ted, as most of his friends and family called him, was a life-long fan of the NY Yankees. He enjoyed watching baseball, taking his morning walks, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Maduri Lanzaro of Southport, his children, Theodore Lanzaro, Jr. of Cheshire, Michael Lanzaro of Southport and Stephania Lanzaro of Shelton, as well as his three grandchildren, Theodore and Valentina Lanzaro of Cheshire and Chase Marcel of Shelton. Also surviving are many beloved nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Besides his parents, Theodore was predeceased by his brother Luciano Lanzaro and sisters Norma Lanzaro and Ella Baldassare.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 9:20 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 10:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena RC Church, 4 Riverside Avenue, Riverside. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North Street, Greenwich. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
