Thomas Gordon Calderbank, 91, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 1, 2015 at Stamford Hospital. Thomas was born in Stamford on August 27, 1924 to the late Thomas Gordon and Dorothy Darling Calderbank.
Thomas attended Stamford schools and was an apprentice tool and dye maker prior to his enlistment in the US Army Air Corps in 1942. He served as an aircraft machinist during World War II in the Eighth Air Force in Italy and Trinidad until the end of the war in 1945. Thomas worked as a quality control supervisor for Pfizer before his retirement. Throughout his life he was an avid reader with keen interests in history and politics. He also enjoyed golf and travel.
Thomas is survived by his daughters; Gina Marks and her husband Raymond of Boston Spa, UK and Mary Joy Cookson and her husband William of Stamford, his son Charles Calderbank and his wife Alenda of Sandy Hook, CT, his sister Muriel Lucas of Alabama. His four grandchildren; Thomas, Christopher, Zachary and Chelsea and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides his parents, Thomas is predeceased by his loving wife Catlida “Tillie” Caputo Calderbank.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Friday December 4, 2015 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM. A service will follow at the funeral home at 12:00PM. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien, CT.
