Thomas John Cerreta, Sr., 83 passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Danbury Hospital. Born June 24, 1925 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Ralph and Gemma Galella Cerreta.
Thomas was self-employed with his father, Ralph, with Local Oil in both sales and service located in the South End of Stamford from 1950 �" 1960. They were owners of Stamford Studebaker and Mercedes on East Main Street, Stamford, from 1959 �" 1963. He moved to Florida in the mid 1970’s and started Stillwater Pools, a pool maintenance company, and returned to Ridgefield for retirement in 1996, where he worked as a Starter at the Ridgefield Municipal Golf Course from 2000 - 2007. Thomas was also a Veteran of the US Army having served in WWII, as a Tank Commander under General George S. Patton.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalind Andrea Cerreta of Ridgefield; two sons, Tom Cerreta & his wife Donna of Monroe and Ralph ‘Tony’ Cerreta of Ridgefield; a sister, Naida E. Cognetta of Stamford/Fairfield; seven grandchildren, Paul, Jaclyn, Anthony, Damon, Bianca, Francesca and Andrea; several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Captain Ralph M. Cerreta, Jr., U.S Navy, (Ret.); and a sister, Madeline Schlegel.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Thursday, March 26 from 4 �" 8 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Leo’s RC Church, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, on Friday, March 27 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien.
