Thomas P. Kennedy, age 89, of Stamford, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2008 in The Nathaniel Witherell Nursing Facility in Greenwich, CT. The son of the late Stephen P. and Helen Troy Kennedy, he was born and raised in Stamford, and was a graduate of Stamford High School, class of 1937.
A veteran of WWII, he served in the South Pacific from 1941 to 1945 in the U.S. Army 41st Infantry Division Signal Corps.
For most of his career, Tom was employed at Bob's Sports on Bedford Street in Stamford. For almost forty years, in his quiet way, he epitomized customer service, and can be remembered by a generation of children as the kind and patient man who fitted them for their first pair of ice skates or skis.
He will be greatly missed by his family: son David L. Kennedy and his wife Mary Ann of Stamford; daughter Jeanne Puglisi and her husband George of Monroe; five beloved grandchildren: Janice Raggi and her husband Steve of Stamford, David, Daniel and Kathleen Kennedy of Stamford, and Erin Puglisi of Monroe; two great-grandchildren: Brian and Johnny; his step-mother Jennie Kennedy and his stepsister Jean V. Kennedy of Houston, Texas; a sister-in-law Gladys Albert of Somerset, Mass., and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Ruth Albert Kennedy, three brothers: Stephen B., Francis D. and William E. Kennedy, and two sisters: Helen E. Kennedy and Dorothy Psheck.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Sunday, December 28th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 29th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
