Thomas Troy Jr

Thomas F. Troy, Jr., 90, a lifelong Stamford resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 19, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Thomas was born in Stamford on June 9, 1926 to the late Thomas F. and Laura Marie Kilduff Troy, Sr.
Thomas served his country during World War II in Germany as a member of the US Army 84th Infantry Regiment, 333th Infantry Battalion, where he received an appointment to the Chevalier Legion of Honor given by the French Republic, for his service during the War. Thomas graduated Stamford High School, Class of 1944, after which he attendant Fordham University and graduated Class of 1950, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He went on to graduate from Southern Connecticut State University in 1963 with a Master of Science Degree and in 1967 he received his sixth year teaching certificate from the University of Bridgeport. Thomas was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Augustine Council #41, he was in charge of the Courtland Avenue Park during the summers and he was also an accomplished Track & Field athlete, having received numerous trophies.
Thomas is survived by his sister, Lorraine F. Hartnett and her husband Harold J., of Norwalk.
Besides his parent, Thomas is predeceased by his loving wife, Bette H. Stube Troy, his brother James F. Troy and his sister Patricia Slagle.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Thursday June 23, 2016 at 9:40AM and proceed to St. Mary’s RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00AM. Entombment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery Mausoleum, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 6:00-8:00PM.
