Thomas J Tunney Jr. “TJ”, was a lifelong resident of Stamford, CT.
Sgt TJ Tunney answered his final call in the early morning hours of Jan 3, 2016 at home with loving family members around him. Through his passing he was reunited with his father Thomas J Tunney Sr, mother Kathryn Hagan Tunney, Sisters Patricia Tunney Dana, Elizabeth Ann Tunney Dana and Brother Daniel J Tunney. He leaves behind Sister Kathryn Tunney Mindlin, nephew George M Dana III “Skip”, nieces Stephanie Dana Schmidt, Michelle Dana Rutledge, Melissa Dana Robinson, 3 great nephews and 4 great nieces. He also leaves behind his 4 beloved cocker spaniels.
TJ worked with the town of Wilton police department for 31 years. During this time he received many awards for his service. From the American Red Cross he received the law enforcement award in 2009 and First responder hero award in 2014. The highest honors came to him from the New England Chief of police where he received officer of the year in 2012. TJ always said just another day on the job.
The family of TJ Tunney invite you to join them at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church 1200 Shippan Ave Stamford CT for a celebration of life mass on Saturday Jan 9, 2016 at 11:30 AM. Interment will be private. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the Tunney Family with the arrangements.
