Vincent J. DeNicola, 65, of James Island, SC, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 23, 2008. Born in Stamford, CT, on December 19, 1943, he was the son of the late Dominick and Angelina Loglisci DeNicola.
Vinny, known to most here in Charleston as �"Pops, was the co-founder and owner of Mom & Pops Corner Store on Grimball Road and Mom & Pops Pizza and Subs on Folly Road from 1993 to 2004. As a young man, Vinny served proudly for his country as a Military Policeman during the Vietnam Conflict. After the war, he served on the Stamford Police Force as a Police Officer and later worked as a Detective. Later in life, he found success as a Contractor, building many housing developments in CT, as well as a Restaurateur, Catering Director and former partner in the Continental Manor in Norwalk, CT.
He was a former member of the Stamford Board of Representatives and of the Gravinese Mutual Aid Society.
Vinny was preceded in death by his brother Frank DeNicola; sister, Carmella Colandro, her husband John Colandro; and brother-in-law Anthony �"Babe Vozzella.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Blefari DeNicola; sons, Vincent F. DeNicola, Michael J. DeNicola and daughter, Lori DeNicola of Charleston, SC; brother, Pat DeNicola and wife Marion; brother, Joseph DeNicola and wife Marge; sister, Marie Parente and husband Hank; and sister Linda Vozzella all of Stamford, CT. He also had nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too many to count. He will be sorely missed by his two dogs Diesel and Nike whom he loved to no end.
A Memorial Service will be held in Stamford, CT on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at St. Cecilias Catholic Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, at 9:30 AM. Local arrangements are being handled by the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford
