Vincenza Mazzella

Vincenza F. “ Ginsey “ Ofiero Mazzella, 84 of Stamford, passed away at her home on Monday, August 2, 2010. Born on February 28, 1926 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Generoso and Giovanna Corsi Ofiero. She was a prior resident of Sebastian, Florida for 24 years.
Vincenza was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of 1942, after which she worked as a licensed hairdresser for Patterson Salon for many years and retired from Machlette Lab. Aside from being known for her avid love of bingo, she was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Vincenza is survived by her three children, Cynthia DeAngelis and her husband Ronald of Stamford, her son, Charles “Chuck” Mazzella, Jr. and Nancie Risola of Coco Beach, FL and Elaine Palmero and her husband Rich of Stamford; her granddaughter Melissa Tesei and her husband Steve of Greenwich; her grandsons, Michael J. Sabino, Jr. and RJ DeAngelis, both of Stamford; a great grandson, Luke Tesei; and sisters in law, Elizabeth, Anna and Jeanne Ofiero. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Vincenza was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Charles A. Mazzella, Sr.; ten brothers, Pasquale, Michael, Louis, Joseph, Generose, John, Vincenzo, Nicholas, Anthony and Frank; and two sisters, Catarina Ofiero and Catherine D’Andrea.
A Funeral Procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 9:20AM for a Mass of Christian to be celebrated at 10:00AM at St. Mary RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT 06902. Entombment will follow at St. John’s Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 from 4:00-8:00PM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made in Vincenza’s name to the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence, 100 Shelburne Rd, Stamford, CT 06904, or Visiting Nurse Hospice Care, 1266 East Main Street, Stamford, CT 06902.
