Vita C. Longo, 82, a lifetime resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Born on March 7, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Madeline Mancuso Pavia Chiappetta.
Vita was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a former employee of the Chiappetta Blouse Factory, which her father owned. She attended the Danbury State Teachers College, was a member of St. Maurice Women’s Guild and taught CCD classes at St. Maurice. Vita was an avid reader and was a crossword puzzle enthusiast.
Vita is survived by her husband, Albert S. Longo of Stamford; a daughter, Donna J. Rocchio of New York; two sons, Paul A. Longo & his wife Clare, and David P. Longo & his wife Sherry, both of Stamford; a brother, Louis Chiappetta & his wife Lena of Madison, CT; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two sisters, Sylvia Burriesci and Marie Remy; and four brothers, Lawrence, Joseph, Paul and Robert Chiappetta.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Friday, May 1 from 4 �" 8 PM.
A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home on Saturday, May 2 at 8:20 AM and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien.
