Vito Chiappetta, long time resident of Stamford, peacefully passed away at Stamford Hospital on the morning of Wednesday, March 24, 2021 with his family at his side. He was born in San Vincenzo, La Costa, Italy on September 4, 1929, and was one of seven children born to the late Virginia (Asta) and Mariano Chiappetta. Vito was 91 years old at the time of his passing.

Vito is survived by his sons, Pat Chiappetta and wife Jean and Frank Chiappetta and wife Lynn; grandchildren, Leslie Trombetta (Dean), Lori Murray (Kevin), John Chiappetta (Meredith), James Chiappetta (Melanie) and Ashley Scarano (Louie); great grandchildren, Kylee, Kevin Jr., Gia, Celia, Liliana, Leo, Lucy and Jenna; brothers, Aldo, Pietro and Ferdinando Chiappetta, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Vito was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Rita (Giordano) Chiappetta; his brothers, Michele and Luigi Chiappetta and a sister, Josepina Chiappetta.

Vito was a hard worker who was employed by Northeast Utilities for 32 years in the Gas Distribution Department. He was a devoted family man who took pride in taking caring of them and providing for them. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as working in his garden. Although he will be sadly missed, there is solace in knowing that he is now at peace with his beloved wife, Rita.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday March 27, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. Benedict RC Church, 1 St. Benedict Circle, Stamford. Entombment will follow at St, John’s Cemetery Mausoleum, Darien. There will be no calling hours. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vito’s caregiver, Vira Dobranska, for all the wonderful care attention and love she gave to him.
