William Edward Christie, Sr.,88, who resided at The Greens at Canondale in Wilton, CT , passed away peacefully on Friday, August 10, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 22, 1924 in Stamford, CT to the late William M. Christie and Grace Marshall Christie. Bill was a longtime resident of Darien as well as residing in Monroe, Newtown and Trumbull.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Janet Lawson Christie. He was the loving father of William E.Christie, Jr. of Stamford, June M. Postolowski of Guilford, Janet C. Samperi of Monroe and Joyce C. Styslinger of Fairfield. Bill was the dear father in law of Peter J. Samperi of Monroe. He was the proud grandfather of Jason W. Christie of Stamford, Lindsey E. Christie of Los Angeles, CA, Kimberly J. Styslinger of Stamford and Carrie L. Samperi of West Hartford. Also, he is survived by one niece and three nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Grace C. Wasserlein and Alberta C. Stevens.
William served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 11th Traffic Regulation Group from 1944-1946. Bill was a plumbing and heating contractor, owning his own business until his retirement in 1985. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time at his homes in Woodford, VT and Barefoot Bay, FL. His interests were snowmobiling, fishing, camping with friends, listening to country and organ music and playing the organ. He especially liked the artwork of Thomas Kincade, “The Painter of Light.”
The family has chosen to have a graveside funeral service to honor his memory. It will be celebrated at Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford, CT on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for contributions to Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County, P.O. Box 489, Wilton, CT 06897. The Nicholas F.
