William Johnson, a long-time resident of Stamford, CT, and formerly of Rye Brook, NY and Byram, CT, died on December 27th, 2020 at the age of 76. He was born on May 14, 1944 in New Rochelle, NY to the late James and Mary (Porrazzo) Johnson.
He was predeceased by his brother James “Jim” Johnson, sister-in-law Barbara (Donnelly) Johnson, sister-in-law Brenda (Basso) McConnell, and loving dog, Otto. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Basso) Johnson; his five children: Christopher, Brian, Amanda, Emily, and Rebecca; son-in-law, Hutch; grandson, Liam; sister, Janet; brother-in-law, Vincent, and his wife, Mary; niece, Jeanette; and many other nieces and nephews.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1963 and served two tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1967. He met his wife during his seventeen years working at American Can. They were married for thirty-six years. He fell in love with her inner and outer beauty, and her loyalty to others. He worked at Xerox for twenty-three years until he retired in 2014.
He loved his family and dogs to the moon and back. He was a role model for what a father should be and was a father figure to countless people. He was always growing and learning through books, the History Channel, Jeopardy, and his family. He loved sports and enjoyed playing softball and coaching for his children’s teams. He was a goofy and creative man, making up many stories and games to entertain and comfort his family. He loved holidays, especially Halloween, and took pride in decorating the exterior of his house. He read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas every year, always fumbling the words.
