William Morris, 79, affectionately known as “Red”, was born into eternal life on Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Born in Stamford on October 9, 1929, he was the son of the late Catherine & William Cowley Morris, Sr. Bill was a lifelong resident of Stamford.
He worked in the Office of Operations as a clerk of the Public Works Department of the City of Stamford for the last 10 years. Previously, Bill was a master plumber and lifelong member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 777. While a member of local 777, he also served as president of The Apprentice Board. As a journeyman he was employed for many of those years by Bouton & Co. of New Canaan. Some of the buildings he managed plumbing & heating work included Pitney Bowes, The Yerwood Center, Cloonan Middle School and Metro North. He was a 27 year member of the Ponus Yacht Club, serving as its house chairman for several of those years. In the mid 1940’s Bill served in the Merchant Marines. His love for the water remained with him as he spent years out on the water boating, fishing, and shark hunting. He was an excellent cook and he generously shared that talent with his family and friends. Bill will be greatly missed by his family, especially by his wife, children, and grandchildren and all those who knew him and shared a friendship with him.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marion Preziosi Morris; sons William E. Morris and Richard Morris; his daughter, Michelle Morris Sagdati & son-in-law Djemal “Jimmy” Sagdati, all of Stamford; two grandchildren, Brooke Morris of Bethel, CT & Lindsey Morris of NY, NY; his sisters Shirley Mailhot & Ruth Evers of Stamford and brothers Edward “Jimmy” Morris of Stamford, & Fredrick Morris of Florida, and many Nieces and Nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Michael Morris; his sister Edna Morris and brother Walter Morris.
A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 9:10 AM and proceed to St. John the Evangelist RC Church, 279 Atlantic Street, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Stamford.
