William D. Sabia, 92 a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Born October 21, 1922 to the late Antonio and Julia Carrideo Sabia.
William was a graduate of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) having earned his Civil Engineer degree. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII having served in the Battle of the Bulge. William was a former member of the local Knights of Columbus, # 41 St. Augustine Conn., and The Society for Professional Engineers. William was also a former member and usher at St. Clements Roman Catholic Church. He was employed by the City of Stamford, serving as City Engineer for nearly 30 years.
William is survived by his two sons, Anthony W. Sabia of Stamford, Guy D. and his wife Janet T. Sabia of Danbury. His two daughters Cynthia R. Sabia and husband Ronald Thornhill of Stamford, and Julia A. DeAngelis and her husband John of Georgia. A sister Marjorie Crotty of Nevada, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive.
Besides his parents, William is predeceased by his beloved wife Beatrice Castagnetti Sabia, a brother Anthony G. Sabia, and a sister Dorothy (Izzi) Castagnetti.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT on Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 2:00PM to 6:00PM. A procession will be leaving the funeral home on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 9:15AM and proceed to St Clements Roman Catholic Church, 535 Fairfield Ave., Stamford, CT where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM followed by interment at the Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Stamford, CT.
