William Thomas Murphy, 94, a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully on Monday, March 28, 2016 at Stamford Hospital. He was born in Stamford on April 29, 1921 to the late John and Mary Thomas Murphy.
He attended Stamford Schools and was a decorated Veteran of WW II with the US Army, where he fought bravely on the front. He then began his career as an Engineer, having retired twenty five years ago. He married his life-long love of seventy five years Dorothy Smith Murphy and together they enjoyed life as best friends and soul mates, traveling on many wonderful vacations. He also enjoyed his home in Springdale, where he puttered around his yard and loved his excursions to the Casinos.
Besides his devoted wife Dorothy, William is survived by his loving grandchildren Suzanne Gallicano and her husband John, Shawn Murphy and his wife Julie, six adoring great grandchildren, Shawna Murphy, Nicholas Gallicano, Michael Murphy, Shelby Gallicano, Michelle Murphy, Dakota Gallicano and his daughter in law Jacquelyn Murphy of Stamford, as well as many nieces and nephews.
William was predeceased by his son William Thomas Murphy, Jr., his brother John Murphy and his sisters Alice Corbo and Hazel Sibilio.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 9:00-11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in William’s memory to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
