Eugene Sullivan
Eugene ‘Gene’ Sullivan, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away unexpectedly after
a short illness at Stamford Hospital late Saturday, March 30, 2024. He was 63 years old.
Born on October 19, 1960, he was the son of Patricia Slyker Sullivan and the late Eugene
Sullivan, Sr. A longtime custodian for Stamford Public Schools, assigned to Newfield
School, he was the former owner of Gene Sullivan Landscaping of Stamford. Gene was
particularly proud to be a co-owner, along with his son, Charlie, of Sullivan and Son Land
Management, a business Charlie has grown beyond imagination.
When he wasn’t working, Gene could usually be found at one of three places – Cove
Island Marina, cruising the waters of Long Island Sound on his boat, or at ‘The Garage” –
a special place that hosted countless gatherings over the years, most of which were
unscheduled and full of laughter and friendship. Many problems were discussed –
usually, though, none were solved.
An accomplished fisherman and formerly a recreational lobsterman, Gene was a reliable
resource for all things boat and water-related. He was also a member of the Stamford
Shellfish Commission. Gene’s circle of friends is a testament to him as a person; if you
needed help with anything, no one was more ready to help than Gene.
In addition to his mother and his son Charlie, Gene is survived by Charlie’s mother, Jill
Lovello; his sister, Anna Stearne and daughter, Christina; his brother-in-law, Dave Lewis
and daughters Karen and Stephanie; and his extended family – Duane and Gayle Lovello
and their sons Michael and Stephen; Tommy and Susan Iacovacci and their children
Matthew, Sam, and Raeanne; and Chrissie and Connie Lovello; and ‘Uncle Richie’ Lovello..
In addition to his father, he is predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents,
his sister Coleen Lewis, and his sister, Diana Sullivan.
Calling hours will take place on Thursday, April 4, from 4 to 8 PM at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral
Home, 104 Myrtle Ave., in Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 5
at 10 AM at St. John’s RC Church, 1986 Boston Post Rd., Darien. Interment immediately
following at Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
Gene’s untimely passing is a reminder that every day is a gift; tomorrow is promised to no one. Please ensure those closest to you know how much they mean to you.
