Evangelia Stamatiadi
Evangelia Z. Stamatiadi 92, a former and longtime resident of Stamford/Norwalk passed away peacefully on Thursday July 27, 2023, in New York. Evangelia was born in Agoryiani, Sparta, Greece on August 21, 1930, daughter of the late George and Vasilike Papadopoulos Zaharis.
Evangelia was also known to many as Lisa or Tata. At the age of 22, she emigrated alone from Greece to Canada on the passenger ship Nea Hellas. On her journey to Canada, she met lifelong friends. Shortly after arriving in Canada, she met her loving, humorous and good natured husband Paul through mutual friends. They later moved to the USA with their two daughters to be closer to family.
Evangelia had an unwavering zest for life, with spirit and determination, reflected in her personality and outlook. She had a passion for fashion and enjoyed the process of designing and creating clothing for many. Above all else, family and friends were the most important and her love for them was unconditional.
Evangelia is survived by her loving daughters, Helen Stamatiadis of Bethel, CT, and Valerie Andreoli and her husband Barton of Clifton Park, NY. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Barton, Paul and Maria Andreoli.
Besides her parents Evangelia was predeceased by her siblings, Maria Kyriakoulakou, Nick Zaharis, Popi Karabas, Leonidas Zaharis, and Evdokia Kafedzi.
Family and friends may call at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, on Monday, July 31, 2023 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM with a Trisagion service taking place at 7:30 PM. The Rev. Father Evan Evangelidis will be officiating. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home August 1, 2023 at 10:30 AM and processing to the Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford, Street, Stamford, CT, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, Stamford, CT.
