Roberta Jones

Roberta Jones, ‘Mom’ or ‘Bert’ to most, left this world on Dec. 1, 2024. She left a legacy of love and caring—- and the world is truly a better place for her having been here. “Bert” was the mom everyone wanted. A minister’s daughter and a minister’s wife, she carried with her the belief that Christianity was more about action than words and she showed us all the way. She cooked food for the sick and elderly and delivered it on a regular basis. A small family Sunday dinner frequently became a loaves & fishes miracle for 20 unanticipated guests. The table could consisted of college presidents, missionaries, maybe a person just released from jail, a visitor from church who had fallen on hard times or simply a person who had nowhere to go. The conversations would be riveting and we children had a seat at the table to fully participate. Bert made the family home a place where the kid’s friends and others loved to hang out. The more the merrier! She spent countless hours listening to everyone’s problems and dispensing sage advice. One of the greatest gifts she leaves us is her belief of “nothing should be wasted, all should be shared, we should come to the aid of those in need and be positive role models for others.”

And that is who Bert was.

Mom was a cross between Erma Bombeck, Carol Burnett and Dear Abby. She had a fun, quick and sometimes wicked sense of humor and a contagious laugh. She loved a good game of cards (500) and played a ‘soulful’ gospel piano and organ for church services. She truly was a powerful force of joy and inspiration for all that knew her.

Bert lived for her children and grandchildren. She is survived on this earth by her brother Dan Son; her daughter Dawn(Walter) Kusumoto; her son Danny (Lisa) Jones; and her son Randy (Barb) Jones. In addition she is survived by her three grandchildren: Justis Kusumoto, Kayla Jones and Samson Jones. Bert also leaves behind a legacy of sharing and caring for the many friends and family that were touched by her goodness.

We shall miss her but know that she is getting a long deserved break in Heaven and likely bringing joy and a little mischievous havoc above!
