Sanjay Patel
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Sanjay Patel on October 1, 2024, in Stamford, Connecticut, with family by his side after a brave struggle with cancer.
Born on February 19, 1985, in Redlands, California, Sanjay was a brilliant thinker who
challenged the status quo from a young age, demonstrating a curiosity and intellect that would guide him throughout his life. As a child, he built his first computer, igniting a lifelong passion for
technology and its intersection with society, government, and the economy. When he wasn’t immersed in thoughts about cybersecurity, Sanjay could be found racing down mountain
slopes on his snowboard, embracing every thrill life had to offer.
Sanjay graduated from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada in 2014 and completed his residency at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh in 2018. He was devoted to his
patients as a Primary Care Physician at Stamford Health Medical Group, where he worked since 2018. His commitment to the four aims of life—dharma, artha, kama, and moksha—shaped not only his professional ethos but also his personal interactions. He was known for his expertise, compassion, and deep understanding of world affairs, always striving for justice and freedom for all.
In marriage to his beloved wife, Amanda Vest Patel, MD, Sanjay created a warm and nurturing home where their love flourished. He supported Amanda and his sister-in-law, Mallorie, throughout their grueling medical residencies while ensuring that their beloved pets, Pancake, Blue and Princess, were cared for and happy. Sanjay organized many family trips to enjoy sun-soaked beaches, reminding everyone of the importance of family and creating cherished memories. Sanjay leaves a profound impact on everyone he met — family, friends, colleagues, and patients alike. He will be remembered for his smile which radiated the “Sun” in his name and his laugh, unwavering positive energy, and his ability to see beauty in each day. His soul lives on through his loved ones, who will carry his legacy of kindness and joy.
He is survived by his cherished wife, Amanda; his mother, Hemlata Patel; his father, Hasmukh Patel; his sister, Nisa Braganza (husband Darryl) and their son, Nalen; his sister, Rita
Ambal (husband Hari) and their daughter, Diya; his beloved Tanisha; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Friends and family may offer their sympathy and condolences to Sanjay’s family on Thursday, October 3rd, from 4pm to 8pm at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT. The interment will be private.
In memory of Sanjay, we encourage all who knew him to embrace life’s beauty and share in the goodness he embodied.
