Zacharias Aloupis
Zacharias Aloupis, a longtime resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully at the age of 89. He was born on March 14, 1935, in Georgitsi, Greece, to the late Vasilios and Maria Aloupis. Zacharias was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who dedicated his life to his family.
Zacharias was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones. He had a passion for gardening and fishing, but his greatest joy was always the time he spent with family and friends. In his early adult years, Zacharias traveled the world with the Greek Merchant Marines, collecting cherished memories and sharing countless stories with those fortunate enough to hear them.
In March of 1968, Zacharias arrived in the United States with plans for a temporary visit to see his brothers and their families. An electrician by trade, he soon began working at Clairol in Stamford, where he built a long career. It was there that he met Magdalini, the love of his life, and decided to make America his home to start a family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Magdalini Aloupis; his daughter Maria Aloupis and her partner Max Bianco; his daughter Kiki Carozza and her husband Chris Carozza; his son Billy Aloupis and his wife Rebecca Aloupis; his grandchildren Patricia, Gianni, Henry, Dean, and Sebastian; his sister Panayiota Vratsini of Georgitsi, Greece; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Costas Aloupis and Christos Aloupis.
The family will receive visitors during calling hours on Sunday, October 20, from 3 PM to 7 PM at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 21, at 11 AM at the Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, followed by interment at St. John’s Cemetery in Stamford.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Zacharias’s memory to the Archangels Greek Orthodox Church in Stamford, CT.
