Lucy Ambrosecchio

Lucia (Lucy) Elena Mallozzi Ambrosecchio, 93, of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 20, 2023. She was born in Stamford on October 16, 1929 to the late Joseph and Concetta Pensiero Mallozzi.
Lucy (as she was known by all) was born, married, and lived her entire life in Stamford. She graduated from Stamford High School in 1947 and continued her education at Shorts Secretarial School and John Roberts Modeling School. Later in life she learned computer skills at Norwalk Community College.
Lucy believed in the rewards of hard work, and as soon as she was able to earn a paycheck she did so. She always allocated some to savings and some to her mother for groceries.
While in high school, Lucy worked in the kitchen at Stamford Hospital. At 16, she worked at the Yale Lock Manufacturing Company. During and after her time at Shorts School, she walked or took the bus to secretarial jobs at The Unique Balance Company, Stamford Division, Air Force Quality Control, and others. Her favorite and final office job was at Carroll Belknap & Associates.
In 1952, Lucy met her husband of 67 years, “Mikey” at an Italian Festival in the Bronx. On July 28, 1956, they married. In 1957, after the birth of their first child, Lucy took a night job waitressing at the Clam Box in Cos Cob. She stayed in that job for 28 years, until the Clam Box closed on September 29, 1985. She was a Clam Box “Superstar”!
Lucy is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Michael (Mikey) J. Ambrosecchio of Stamford, her loving daughters, Gail Lauridsen and her husband Peter of Cos Cob and Sandra Lane and her husband Kevin of Norwalk, as well as her brothers, Ottavio Mallozzi and his wife Andoneta of New Canaan and Rosario Mallozzi of Stamford. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Michael, Thomas and Joseph Buchanan, Sarah and Christiana Lauridsen and great grandchildren, Bryce and Jillian Buchanan.
Besides her parents, Lucy was also predeceased by her daughter, Renee Ambrosecchio Buchanan and her sisters, Betty Mikulsky, Jeanne Velez, Ellen Dagostino and Josephine Volpe.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Leo RC Church, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at time 11:00 AM. There will be no calling hours. Entombment was held privately.

Josephine Markiewicz

Josephine K. Markiewicz, 99 years and 4 months, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2023, in North Branford, CT after wonderful care from the Evergreen Woods staff over the past several years. Josephine (Jo) was born in Stamford, on January 21, 1924, daughter of the late Philip and Mary Chrusch Krouchuk.
Jo was educated in the Stamford School System, went on to Danbury State Teacher’s College (now Western Connecticut State University) and was a career long teacher of Sixth and her favorite, Second grade at Julia A.Stark School. She was active with the Glenbrook and Belltown Fire Departments often calling Bingo at their functions. Jo loved to bowl and was a member of a Stamford Senior League.
Jo and Mark traveled extensively by car across the country and Canada visiting family and friends. Jo loved to collect rocks on their journeys, and Mark was a careful filter of extras during rest stops.
Jo loved being with her entire family, especially her granddaughters and most recently her great granddaughter. She always had a story, phrase, or song (often repeated) that brought a smile and chuckle to us all. She will be dearly missed.
Jo is survived by her loving son Tom and his wife Beth of Guilford, CT, her cherished granddaughters, Kelly Markiewicz of Essex, CT, and Jennifer Hanrahan (Markiewicz) and her husband Steven of Killingworth, CT., and her wonderful great-granddaughter Mairin Hanrahan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jo was predeceased by her husband Julius M. Markiewicz and her sisters, Ann Hoffman, and Pauline Clark.

Barbara Griffin

Griffin, Barbara passed away on May 15th, 2023. Beloved mother and grandmother, Barbara was born in Hudson, NY the daughter of the late Louis and Jean DeLavalle. She is survived by her loving daughter, Dana Griffin, granddaughter, Alexa Griffin, and loving son, Terry Griffin, and granddaughter, Ashley Griffin, and sister, Marian Jordan.
Barbara held an Associate Degree from Norwalk Community College where she graduated Summa Com laude, won a scholarship to Sacred Heart University earning a Bachelor Degree, and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Bridgeport.
Her business career included Personnel Manager at Intech in Stamford, Executive Assistant to the CEO of Newport News Catalog Company in New York City, and Personal Assistant to Retired Chairman of the Board of the Ford Motor Company in Stamford. Barbara was also a Justice of the Peace for the State of Connecticut.

Karen Malta

Karen J. Malta, resident of Stamford, passed away at New York Presbyterian Hospital on the evening of Monday, May 8, 2023, with her family by her side. She was born in Port Chester, NY on May 10, 1947, and was the daughter of the late Erwin Schmidt and Emma June. Karen was 75 years old at the time of her passing.
Karen is survived by her long-time partner, Gary Reilly, five children, Valerie Malta and husband, Donald Portanova, Jeremy Malta, Amy Malta and husband, Michael Yoranidis, Justin Malta and wife, Ingrid, Ashley Castillo and husband, Dwight and four grandchildren, Kairi and Keira Castillo and Vivienne and Olivia Malta.
Karen was a devoted mother and friend to all who knew her. She loved babysitting her grandchildren as well as spending time with her many friends of the Eagles Club where she was a member and building with Legos. She also enjoyed spending time outside taking long walks and hiking.
A celebration of Karen’s life will take place on Sunday, July 16th from 3:00pm – 6:00pm at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club, 688 Main Street, in Stamford. The inurnment will take place at a later date and will be held privately.

Jeffrey Miller

Jeffery T. Miller, 63, of Greenwich, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Jeffery was born in Stamford on October 25, 1959 to the late Alfred and Bernice Tandet Miller.
Jeff enjoyed spending time with his family above all else. Jeff held a self-proclaimed “PhD” in mechanics which he enthusiastically used to work on “anything with a motor”. Throughout his life he undertook new hobbies and sports with his sons, and horseback riding with his wife. Jeff’s adventures with the family brought them everywhere from scuba diving a hundred meters below the ocean’s surface to flying Cessnas thousands of feet above the ground.
Jeffery is survived by his loving wife Cheryl Rute Miller, as well as his two sons; Alec Miller and Jacob Miller, all of Greenwich.
Besides his parents, Jeffery is predeceased by his brother Charlie Miller.
Services and interment will be held privately by the family.

Jeffery Miller

Lynn Botsford

Lynn Botsford, 89, passed away on May 10, 2023, in Connecticut, after a long and difficult battle with dementia. She was born Selma Kalsner on May 1, 1934, in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York, to the late William L. Kalsner and Sadie Feldman. Lynn lived a full and vibrant life, spending her early years in Brooklyn and Manhattan before moving to Queens and eventually settling in Pound Ridge, NY.

Lynn was a devoted wife to record producer and writer, Ward Botsford. She was the mother of two daughters, Diana Dru Botsford and Andrea Botsford Castellano, and mother-in-law to Richard Hopkins and Anthony Castellano. She was also a proud grandmother to Ariana Botsford Cohen, Ashlee Castellano, Anthony Castellano, and Michael Castellano, and great-grandmother to Josephine Irie Cohen.

Lynn had a passion for fashion, music, and art from a young age. She modeled professionally in the late 1940s and early 50s. Upon her marriage, she went on to pursue her interests in the arts and music, working for several galleries in New York City, including the prestigious Marlborough Gallery. Lynn was also a dedicated volunteer at Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in Katonah, NY, where she spent countless hours supporting the organization’s mission.

Along with her husband, Lynn traveled the world, visiting nearly every continent. From their journeys, Lynn and Ward gifted the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art with an Egyptian funerary figure from the 18th Dynasty. The wooden and resin statue is currently on display in the museum’s Egyptian wing.

Lynn was known for hosting exceptional dinner parties throughout the decades, guests including world-class musicians, actors, authors, and playwrights. She was known for her kindness, generosity, humor, and unwavering love for her family. She was a beloved member of her community and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In addition to her daughters, grandchildren, and great granddaughter, Lynn is survived by her sister-in-law Jenny Kalsner, nieces Lydia, Pamela, and Louisa Kalsner, as well as Lisa Garner, Cindy Parker and her children Leah, Michael, and Melinda, nephew Andrew Garner, as well as grandnephews/nieces, Dylan, Chloe, Noah, Tess, Olivia, Jonah, Max and Elliot.

Betty Vitti

Betty Arancia Vitti, a resident of Boynton Beach, Florida and formerly of Stamford and Trumbull, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 4, 2023. She was born on March 3, 1936, to the late Joseph and Sally (Arena) Arancia. Betty attended Stamford schools and graduated from Stamford High School in 1953. She then graduated from J.M. Wright Tech in 1955 with a degree in Beauty Culture.
Betty was married to retired Stamford Fire Chief Joseph J. Vitti Sr. on September 2, 1957, until his passing in 2005. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her in-laws, Charles and Helen Vitti, her sister Marie Gavel, and daughter-in-law Christine Vitti.
While in Stamford, Betty was an active member of St. Mary Church, volunteering tirelessly at the feast each year. In Trumbull, Betty continued her church activism as a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena and in Boynton Beach as a parishioner of St. Thomas More.
Betty is survived by her 4 children, retired Stamford Fire Captain Joe Jr. (Maria), Mickey (Lynn), Richie (Nicole), and Ronnie (Lainey). Affectionately known as Nana, she was the biggest cheerleader to her 8 grandchildren, Michael Jr., Joseph III, Zachary, Sara, Ellie, Jake, Stephanie and Nicholas and her great-grandsons, Jay, Anthony IV, and Noah. Betty is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides raising her 4 boys, Betty enjoyed knitting, cooking, camping, hosting family and friends for holidays and other special occasions, everywhere she resided.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 104 Myrtle Avenue in Stamford, on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 10:45AM for a mass of Christian burial at 11AM at St. Mary Church, 566 Elm Street, in Stamford. Visitation at the funeral home will be held prior to mass from 9AM to 10:30AM. The inurnment will follow mass at St. John Cemetery in Darien.

Joseph Tassitano

Joseph F. “Poppa Joe” Tassitano, 75, of Weston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 4, 2023. He was born in Stamford on January 3, 1948 to the late John and Victoria Cortese Tassitano.
Joseph is survived by his devoted wife of seventeen years, Nancy Izzi-Tassitano of Weston, his loving children Justine Tassitano and Hunter Tassitano and his wife Christina, and grandchildren Jaxson and Ella Tassitano, all of Danbury, and his sister, Dolores Spoto of Stamford. Also surviving are his stepchildren Lisa Mingolello and Michael Augustine, both of Meriden. He also leaves behind his beloved family of many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Poppa Joe was devoted to his many family members and friends. He was also dedicated to the Charter Oak Motorcycle Club and his club brothers for over 55 years. He was always a hard worker, retiring from the city of Stamford as a heavy equipment operator after 35 years of employment. He loved his unique home, where you could often find him tinkering in his yard or working on a project in his barn. He loved animals, the outdoors, was a passionate collector of various things, and he was known for never passing up a flea market or antiques shop. He had a lasting impact on everyone he crossed paths with and was truly one of a kind. He was the strongest, kindest, toughest, generous, most helpful and creative man who always offered his advice and opinions. He stopped at nothing to find humor in most everything around him, which created a legacy of laughter and memories. If you met him, you would never forget him. He will be missed by all.
