Dominic Desio
Dominic G. Desio, affectionately known as Don to family and friends, passed away at home, with his family at his side, on the evening of Saturday, August 12, 2023. Don was born in Port Chester, NY on May 29, 1941, and was one of two children born to the late Gerald and Ann Siclari Desio. He was 82 years old at the time of his passing.
Don was born and raised in Port Chester, NY. From a very young age it became apparent to his family that had a natural affinity for playing golf. He was a gifted child prodigy, playing in, and winning, amateur tournaments throughout the area until he turned professional in his early twenties. He graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School in 1959 and from Iona College in 1964, and after completing his schooling he went on to work as head pro at Lakeover Country Club and Putnam Golf Club in Mahopac, NY. During that time, Don married the love of his life, Fran Calarco. Fran and Don settled in Stamford and began their family. Together, they owned and operated Scooters family delicatessen in Darien, CT for 16 years.
Don absolutely loved the game of golf. Playing it, watching it, everything about it. The game was a big part of his life. Above all else, Don was a family man who cared for his wife and daughter immensely. He will be greatly missed and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Don is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Frances Calarco Desio; his beloved daughter, Melissa Melchionne and husband Gerard; his grandson, whom he adored, Nicholas Melchionne; sister Geraldine Desio and extended family and friends.
Family and friends may call on the evening of Tuesday, August 15th from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT 06902.
