Lai Jane Eng

Lai Jane “Joyce” Eng, passed away in Stamford at the age of 63, following an undetermined illness.
Joyce was a lifelong resident of Stamford, growing up helping with her family’s laundry business on the east side of town. She attended Stamford public schools and graduated from Stamford High School in 1977. Pursuing her passion after high school, Joyce attended Bauer Institute of Fashion in Florida. After leaving Florida, she moved to Brooklyn, where she spent several happy years and made many close friends. She returned to Stamford where she raised her son, Jason. Joyce and Jason spent many happy vacations with sister Judy’s family and loved to chat about her co-workers and customers at her jobs at Oxford Health and PMG. Joyce loved tanning -poolside, beachside, tanning booth and at last resort, bronzer. She also loved to cook and hosted many delicious Sunday night dinners for Judy and her family. In her later years, she took a path that her family could not understand nor deter her from. With the support of Pacific House and their staff, she was working towards regaining her former self that we all loved.
Joyce was the daughter of the late Richard and Lan Hoy Eng, owners of Dick Eng’s Hand Laundry on East Main St. She is survived by her son Jason, her sisters Judy Eng (Bob Brown) and Lana Louie (Tony), her brother Steven Eng, nephews Jonathan Louie (Alicia), Sam (Stephanie) & Ian Brown and niece Sueann Woolery.
A memorial gathering will be held at Cognetta Funeral Home in Stamford, at 1:00p on Saturday, December 10th. The gathering will be followed immediately by a reception nearby which all are invited to celebrate a life and eat. At Joyces wishes, her ashes will be cast by her son at a sunny seaside spot in the Caribbean.
The family suggest that memorials/donations be made to the Pacific House, PO Box 1252, Stamford, CT 06901 or to the charity of one’s choice.
Online messages of condolence may be left on the family guestbook hosted on www.cognetta.com.
