Carolyn Torre a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on October 6, 2022, at the age of 91. Carolyn was predeceased by her husband Andrew of 65 years, and her brothers Anthony and Peter Mancusi.
She retired from Pitney Bowes after 27 years, she was an administrator & made many friends.
Carolyn loved cooking, playing cards with friends but most of all she loved her family. She is survived by her children John Torre of Stamford, Patricia Crowley of Milford, and her Granddaughter Christina Torre of Stamford.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cassena Care of Stamford for their dedication to caring for both Andrew and Carolyn.

Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford at 10:45AM, Friday, October 14, 2022, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford. Ernest L. Mammone Sr., passed away peacefully on September 29, 2022. He was born on November 8, 1933 in Stamford to the late Antonio D. Mammone of Stamford (Calabria, Italy) and Mary Teresa Guidio Mammone.

Ernie is survived by his children, Ernest L. Mammone Jr.,(Marguerite), James Mammone ,Theresa Gruner (Roy, which he treated like his own son) and Michelle Mammone. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Craig & Amy Mammone, Meghan Mammone, Ryan and Amanda Mammone, Kim Mammone, Melissa Gruner, Anthony Gruner, Dana and Marc Ogera, Jade Mammone (Dave), Kristen Turner, Carissa Mammone, great grandchildren, Roy Gruner III, Jayson Gruner, Phyliss Gruner, Monroe Gruner, Emma Ogera, RJ Mammone, Andrew, Angelo and Anna Mammone as well as his sister, Josephine YoYo Moretti.

Ernie was predeceased by his wife of 63 years (1956 to 2019), Anna B. Hearn Mammone of Stamford and previously from Owenington, KY, his son,Tony and his grandson Roy Gruner Jr. who he enjoyed many good times with. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Ralph Ruffalo, John Mammone, sisters, Florence Vitti and Emily Nichols.

Ernie graduated from SHS, Class of 1952, in which he played baseball, basketball and football and also on the boxing teams at Rogers School and SHS. He also played intramural sports for St Mary’s basketball team where he scored 56 points in one game. He also played hardball baseball in the twilight league at Cubeta stadium, later on he played for over 15years for the East Side Cardinal Athletic Club, which he enjoyed playing softball with his friends and teammates where they won many trophies, Ernie was a big NY fan, of the old Brooklyn Dodgers, Mets, Rangers and Giants.

Dad served in with US Army 82nd air borne division 1956 to 1958 and also was with the Army reserves from 1958 to 1963. Ernie worked for the City of Stamford as a heavy equipment operator and later as the head timekeeper with the payroll division for 43 years. He was a shop steward for the teamsters for over 9 years. Ernie had many friends there and enjoyed working with them, Dad enjoyed having family dinners and barbecues with family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening with his father Antonio and his sons and grandsons, passing down the tradition his grandson Roy Jr., really enjoyed this as well as we all did.

Dad enjoyed taking his wife and children and later his grandchildren to Indiana and Kentucky to visit mom’s family where we all enjoyed the hospitality of our mom’s family. Great times!

Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:00 PM. Interment will be held privately.

Carmela “Milly” Angelina Abbazia, 97, of Shelton and a former resident of Stamford passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 29, 2022. She was born on August 5, 1925 to the late Patsy and Frances Merlino Cristofolo.
Carmela was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of 1943. She worked for Sears for over 32 years, Carmela was also a member of the Women’s Club of Stamford, St. Gabriel’s Senior Group, National Council of Senior Citizens, as well as St. Mary’s Rosary Society and served as a volunteer at St. Camillus Nursing Home. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and baking.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Angel Pia of Wilmington, NC, three great granddaughters, Frances, Jessica and Liliana Pia, as well as her sister, Jennie Clark and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Carmela was predeceased by her longtime partner Nicholas Ciaccia, her two daughters, Gerrilynn Abbazia and Frances Estes, her sisters, Rose Perrillo, Palmina Zaremski, Antoinette Palmieri, as well as a granddaughter, Glory Lynn Estes and son in law, Peter Pia.

Christine (Tina) Poulos passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on September 25, 2022. She was born on April 18, 1928 in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts to Demetra and Constantine Mirageas. Her father passed away while Christine was young and she and her brother were raised by her mother and stepfather, John Athanas.
After graduating from Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School, she worked as a medical secretary. Christine was a volunteer catechist at the Annunciation Orthodox Cathedral in Boston where she met and fell in love with a young seminary student, George Poulos, and later married him in 1948 before he was ordained a Greek Orthodox priest. The couple became close with the priest of the Boston Cathedral, who later became Archbishop Iakovos of North and South America, and the three went on to share a lifelong friendship and dedication to the Church.
Fr. George and Christine spent eight happy years in Norwich, their first parish. In 1956, Father George was assigned to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels in Stamford, Connecticut, and Christine played an integral role as Presbytera and an active member of the Philoptochos Society, contributing to the development and growth of the community.
Christine was a dedicated wife, devoted mother, and extraordinary homemaker. She was truly a gourmet cook and enjoyed entertaining her family and guests. Christine always shared her love of Greek culture, was an expert in Greek traditions and especially enjoyed family birthday celebrations. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased earlier in February 2022 by her husband of over 74 years, Rev. George Poulos, and her brother George Mirageas.
Christine is survived by her loving children, Peter Poulos and his wife, Argery, of Stamford; Dean Poulos and his wife, Dorie, of Stamford; John Poulos of Liverpool, New York; Michael Poulos and his wife, Pamela, of Stamford; and Paul Poulos and his wife, Georgia, of Stamford. She is also survived by her six cherished grandchildren, Cristina (husband Benjamin), Mary (husband John), George (fiancée Jenna), Dean (wife Potoula), Matthew, Peter, and her great grandchild, Peter Benjamin, sister-in-law Patricia Mirageas of Boston, many nephews and cousins.

Public visitation will be held at Archangels Greek Orthodox Church, 1527 Bedford St., Stamford, CT 06905 on Thursday, September 29, 2022, from 5:00 PM. to 8:00 PM, with a Trisagion Service to be held at 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at the Church on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00 AM. A funeral procession will follow the service to Woodland Cemetery, 66 Woodland Place, Stamford, CT and a Makaria catered luncheon, in memory of Christine, will follow the interment.
